Class of 2024 HSC Major Works in Industrial Technology Multimedia

Deema Arraf - Oumad
Nominated for possible inclusion in the HSC Showcase SHAPE. SHAPE is an annual exhibition of exemplary Major Projects developed by HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design students.
OUMAD is a Palestinian culture magazine and magazine trailer. The aim of the project is to highlight the beauty of Palestinian culture and art, through activities like cooking, storytelling and festivals. It also showcases the evolution of the Palestinian story throughout the years, encapsulating the foundation of the Palestinian heritage. The genre of the magazine is informative, artistic and mirrors a vibrant 70s magazine aesthetic mixed with modern elements. I incorporated 3D animation, student-generated fonts, digital art and more. For this major work, I was motivated by the 7 October conflict. I wanted to help destigmatise the word ‘Palestinian’ by highlighting the rich culture that it is.

Kai Li Beilin - Feeling Lonely
Feeling Lonely is a promotional package which consists of several elements, replicating the type of content a music artist would release alongside new music. The music video incorporates motion graphic editing as well as minor illustrations. The protagonist aims to find a missing device through an adventure like stages of a video game and other in-screen tabs like Spotify and online search bars. The project includes additional elements like posters, and a prototype of an app made by Adobe XD, modelled from a scene within the music video. My project incorporated the use of different software such as Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, and XD to create the final product

Ella Beldoza - My Neighbour's Kitchen
My Neighbour’s Kitchen is a food documentary about my neighbour Anna and her experience with cooking traditional Indonesian food in Australia. I intended to create a warm atmosphere through colour grading and natural lighting. I also focused on creating an engaging and authentic representation of Indonesian, West Java cuisine. I incorporated 2D animations and self-made fonts which pushed me to experiment with a wide range of multimedia skills. I hope that this documentary puts a spotlight on Indonesian cuisine and conveys the importance of sharing traditional food in passing on one’s culture. By using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Photoshop I was able to create an industry standard film.

Jessica Collins - Psycho Killer
Nominated for possible inclusion in the HSC Showcase SHAPE. SHAPE is an annual exhibition of exemplary Major Projects developed by HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design students.
Psycho Killer is a fun, upbeat music video which incorporates a range of 2D and 3D animation techniques and a nonlinear storyline to symbolise the gradual loss of connection to reality experienced by the protagonist. I also created a vinyl cover which includes a mix of original illustrations and photos I edited. I wanted to push myself when creating this project, and therefore incorporating a wide range of skills which required a range of software products including Blender and the Adobe suite. In doing so I produced a video which best depicts my original intentions for the project

Erin Green - Remember 18
My Multimedia Major Project is a short film and promotional poster Remember 18 which follows the story of a girl on her 18th birthday as she searches through her past to accept her newly found adulthood. I created my project using 2D and 3D animation as well as visual effects through Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Adobe Animate, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop and font generation to craft custom typography and graphic design. Through the my development of my skills over the four years I was able to convey nostalgic and retro visuals to depict childhood, as well as a surrealist appearance for the character’s introspective scenes in the short film.

Jessica Herbas - Mirrored
Nominated for possible inclusion in the HSC Showcase SHAPE. SHAPE is an annual exhibition of exemplary Major Projects developed by HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design students.
Mirrored is a fantasy short film about a teenage girl whose dream becomes reality. A strong visual style was created through colour grading, extensive 3D modelling, graphics and self-made typography to evoke emotions of nostalgia and adventure. The short film combines both animation and realistic styles to create a distorted viewing experience, emulating the emotions of the protagonist. Through industry-standard video editing, the short-film encapsulates the skills I have obtained in my 4 years as a multimedia student.
Accompanying the short film is a 1080 x 1920 motion graphic desktop wallpaper. The motion graphic depicts a door opening in the sand dunes, reflecting the main motif of my short film. The project was developed using industry software such as Adobe After Effects, Blender, and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Diana Klinskaia - Knock
Nominated for possible inclusion in the HSC Showcase SHAPE. SHAPE is an annual exhibition of exemplary Major Projects developed by HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design students.
Knock is a music video for the song NDA by Billie Eilish in the horror genre. The video tells the story of a girl who struggles with her past trauma and must overcome her paranoia and anxiety. My intention was to evoke unsettling and tense feelings in the audience using different filming techniques, as well as variety of special effects. To create a mysterious and creepy atmosphere I used multiple lighting setups and colour grading. To expand the range of skills demonstrated, I included elements of 3D animation and animated title sequence. All post production was done in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Adobe After Effects and Blender. I also created an A2 poster to complement my music video.

Charlotte Kwok - Either Way
Nominated for possible inclusion in the HSC Showcase SHAPE. SHAPE is an annual exhibition of exemplary Major Projects developed by HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design students.
Either Way is a music video of a KPOP song by IVE. Its central theme is the realisation that everyone is the same when it comes to insecurities. We are all human and only the good times should matter in life. This is represented by flashbacks of a memory montage. My music video is animated, rotoscoped and filmed, each component having its own section within the music. I have incorporated many techniques such as colour symbolism, colour grading, text and many more. The music video is 1080x1920, offering a high quality aspect ratio. I used my previous music video created in Year 11 to build upon my film skills to help my knowledge on animation. This was completing in Adobe Premier Pro, Clip Studio Paint Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition and Krita. Timie management was a challenge and I had to switch styles and ended up filming most of it, due to the fact that animation was time consuming.

Ruby Millar - Mirrorball
Mirrorball is a music video to accompany Taylor Swift’s song Mirrorball. Several different versions of the protagonist are seen portraying the struggles of wanting to be like by everyone around you and wanting to fit in. This reflects how we twist ourselves into multiple versions so that people will like who we are. I used colour grading and effects like a motion trail and floating partials to give the video a magical, euphoric aesthetic. I used Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Aftereffects and Adobe Audition to make the video. There is a short motion graphic at the start of the video made with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Aftereffects. The 30 second animation within the video was made using Adobe Animate and the CD cover to go with the music video was created in Adobe Photoshop.

Giselle Patrick - Put Your Head on my Shoulder
Put Your Head On My Shoulder is a music video to Paul Anka’s song of the same name. The video connects the two characters, a girl from the 1950s and a girl from the present through a time capsule, and switches between shots of the past and present. I incorporated a variety of camera shots and angles, video editing techniques, and made my own font for the title sequence using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and FontForge. I used software products including Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects to edit the audio and video aspects of my music video.

Keira Shepherd - Love Grows
Love Grow” is a music video to the song Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) by Edison Lighthouse. It tells a story about someone trying to start a friendship but being constantly harassed by vines. To achieve this effect, I decided to conquer Adobe Animate. I faced a challenge with my original project idea and shifted to this concept. I used Adobe Premier Pro, to create my own filters that had to be unique to each clip due to the clips original lighting, and also using this program to make the vines come to life. The greatest challenge with this project was time management.
