HSC Showcase: Music 2022
Class of 2022 HSC Major Work in Music
Alessandra Campagna
I have been singing since I was five years old. My program is comprised of a variety of musical genres of which my private singing teacher introduced me to most of the songs within my program, including Burn, That’s Life and The Wizard and I. HSC music has been a very enjoyable experience and I have been able to broaden my knowledge of musicology, vocal techniques and performance. This year I have performed at assembly and in the student talent quest.

I’ve been playing the piano for 12 years and flute for 9 years. Last year, I completed the AMEB Grade 6 Flute syllabus as well as having completed the AMEB Grade 8 Piano syllabus a few years ago. Tonight I will be performing Liuyang River by Wang Jianzhong, Alexander Rag by Elena-Kats Chernin and the Spanish Dance No.1 by Manuel de Falla. An aspect I enjoy about HSC music is the space and environment created in the classroom as it has assisted in developing my performance skills and analysis in music.
Elena Khachaturian
My musical journey began when I was 7 years old where I started learning the violin and I have also been playing the piano for 8 years. Last year I completed my Certificate of Performance for the violin, and I have continued to refine and develop my skills for future performances. For the HSC, I will be playing Elena Kats-Chernin’s ‘Eliza and the Prince’, Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 1 (1st Movement) and Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No 5 (1st Movement). Throughout the year, I have been working with my accompanist to elevate the atmosphere created amongst all pieces, as well as strengthening our communication with each other to captivate and entice our audiences. Within the classroom environment, my peers and I have nurtured a vibrant and spirited atmosphere where we can discuss and share our musical thoughts and opinions, which is always a pleasure to look forward to.

I have been singing since I was 7 years old. Music has been an integral part of my life and I’m so grateful I’m getting the opportunity to share this passion with my peers and family and friends. My HSC program is comprised of many genres of music that express allow me to showcase my capabilities as a vocalist, with songs including Don’t Know How to Love You, I Don’t Need a Roof and Breathe. My repertoire has enabled me to further develop my stylistic and vocal techniques. This year I’ve been involved with the student talent quest and performing at assemblies.

I have been receiving singing lessons at Sister2Sister School of Singing since 2015 and was selected for the S2S Performance Squad in 2019 which gave me the opportunity to perform in groups and solo at community events. Some distinctive performances include 2020 Firefight Australia Delta Goodrem Back Up Choir at ANZ Stadium and The Voice Australia Back Up Choir for Jordan Anthony in 2019. I have been involved in the cocurricular music program as a member of College Choir, Chamber Choir and more recently a student mentor for the MSGLEE Club. I was a chorus member in the 2017 musical, High School Musical, a secondary lead in the 2019 production of Beauty and the Beast and most recently played Morticia in this year’s production of The Addams Family. The pieces I have chosen for my HSC program are Defying Gravity from Wicked, She Used to Be Mine from Waitress, Burden by Morgan James and Black Hole Sun in the style of Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox. I have selected these songs to challenge myself and demonstrate my ability across a range of genres.
